How to Make the Commitment to Blogging

Uncategorized

Like a lot of other things, there is a certain amount of romanticism in the idea that you can make money from a blog. And like many romantic stories, it doesn’t always work out. having said all this, let me add that if you are interested in becoming a blogger, quitting your day job and all that, you owe it to yourself to at least explore the idea. The shame in all of this is only if you never bother to explore the fact that you could make more money blogging that working at your day j.o.b. (just over broke). This post will be an attempt to have you get rid of the fear and apprehension, and start you thinking that maybe you should just do it.

It is perfectly understandable that you would have some fear (maybe even a lot) around quitting your job and depending on your blogging skills to make your living. There is a technique that is highly effective when it comes to combating irrational fears. In the beginning of this process, you need to ask yourself exactly what it is that you are afraid of and write this all down. Thoughts like – is it the thought of not being successful and being unable to find work to replace this activity? Or maybe you worry about the state of your family’s cohesiveness in that your family may wonder what is wrong with you and (worst come to worst) leave you? Just write things down and don’t worry about how sound or realistic they are just yet.

Once you complete this list, go through it and evaluate each of your points in terms of how realistic it is/might be. While you are doing this, write down how you would deal with each of your noted situations as if they were to actually coming to pass. Things like…. with your skills would you be able to easily get another job, would your family really come apart at the seams just because you are chasing your dream?

One important point that I haven’t mentioned yet is, understanding that you don’t necessarily have to quit your day job to start blogging. Also realize that the more time you actually devote to your blog the faster it will grow. Take stock of your time issues and see if you can’t find an hour or two a day with some time on the weekend.

If you are passionate/committed to doing this blogging thing, then you should also find that the process is really not work at all. It has been said that if you find a job you love, you will never have to work another day in your life! Also doing your blog the part time way allows you to find the point where the blog can finally replace your day job, and you will lose no money or time in the process.

There is one more fear in this exercise that you really need to consider, and that fear is what happens if you don’t go with you gut and start a blog. The fear of being stuck in the same dull, boring, dead end job for the next twenty to forty years of your life……..you decide…….which is the more scary thought?
